I’ve been feeling quite domestic of late, doing lots of cooking and cleaning. Although I’ve always identified very strongly as a feminist, I’ve also always been drawn to the “traditional feminine” tasks like cleaning, cooking and sewing. I think these are things that are often under-appreciated. And yet, these are essential tasks of everyday life. Even the most reluctant must do some cleaning. Even the most inept occasionally makes themselves a sandwich. And how much easier are our lives when someone takes the time and gives of themselves to take care of us! The dishtowel above, and clothespin bag below both from CityChicCountryMouse remind me to take pleasure in the tools of keeping house. City Chic Country Mouse is a mother-daughter team who also have a lovely blog you should visit. I love the discussion of all things creative and seeing what’s coming up in their shop (I spied some fabulous fabric, of course it was Alexander Henry’s Le Coq de Granville, on their blog and then went back to their Etsy store – I may need to have that rooster ironing board cover!) Take a few minutes today to pop over and check out their items!

The List Continues
May 19, 2009 · Leave a Comment
The updated list:
* make brownies – I’m trying to come close to the recipe for these (I’ll be posting my favorite recipe soon!)
* laundry, laundry, and more laundry
* serious spring cleaning (still have the serious part to do…)
* organize my pantry
* rearrange my office/guest room
* read a book (Keeping it Real)
* garage sales
* Star Trek
* make a cute skirt (on hold – my mom borrowed my sewing machine because hers is broken)
* cookout with friends here (rained out, but we still had dinner)
* dye my hair I couldn’t decide on a color. I think I’ll let the taunting grays hang out for a while.
So what’s left is the cleaning and organizing. I almost got started on the pantry on Sunday, but decided to nap instead. I stand by my decision. But I do have cute jars to put my dry goods in, so I guess I’d better get to it! Stay tuned for the brownie recipe and some pictures of my fabulous pantry and office/guest room (cross your fingers!).

What’s on Your List?
May 15, 2009 · 3 Comments
I love having a day off with nothing in particular to do. Which is not to say I will do nothing today! Actually, I have quite a bit planned for today and for the weekend. I’m sure I’ll get about half of these things done, but that’s OK. Nothing is pressing (well, except the laundry…). So here’s my list for the weekend:
- make brownies – I’m trying to come close to the recipe for these
- laundry, laundry, and more laundry
- serious spring cleaning
- organize my pantry
- rearrange my office/guest room
- read a book (Keeping it Real)
- garage sales
- Star Trek
- make a cute skirt
- cookout with friends here
- dye my hair
I know, full weekend! I’ll report back and let you know what I actually got done. Maybe I’ll have some pictures of my fabulous pantry and weekend travels to share. Do you have a list for this weekend? What’s on it?
