The List Continues

May 19, 2009 · Leave a Comment

The updated list:

* make brownies – I’m trying to come close to the recipe for these (I’ll be posting my favorite recipe soon!)
* laundry, laundry, and more laundry
* serious spring cleaning (still have the serious part to do…)
* organize my pantry
* rearrange my office/guest room
* read a book (Keeping it Real)
* garage sales
* Star Trek
* make a cute skirt (on hold – my mom borrowed my sewing machine because hers is broken)
* cookout with friends here (rained out, but we still had dinner)
* dye my hair I couldn’t decide on a color. I think I’ll let the taunting grays hang out for a while.

So what’s left is the cleaning and organizing. I almost got started on the pantry on Sunday, but decided to nap instead. I stand by my decision. But I do have cute jars to put my dry goods in, so I guess I’d better get to it!  Stay tuned for the brownie recipe and some pictures of my fabulous pantry and office/guest room (cross your fingers!).

What color is happy?

April 22, 2009 · 2 Comments

I’ve been thinking a lot about color today.  I don’t know about you, but I really do think that color influences me in a lot of ways. When I got my first “grown-up” apartment (the nice one in the decent neighborhood) I undertook decorating it in what I considered a “grown-up” fashion. I started with a great rug I found on sale. The colors were a little dark, and not necessarily what I would have chosen, but it was a really nice rug. So I got couch covers, and art, and curtains, and even, come Christmas, tree decorations all to match. I thought it was quite put-together. And I was miserable.  After about 6 months it finally hit me that I couldn’t stand any of it!  I got rid of everything. I switched out my nice rug for a cheap one with bright blues and greens, and followed suit throughout the apartment. I was amazed at the difference it made in my mood on a daily basis.  I’ve found this to be true again and again in my life. So now that I’m doing a little redecorating I’m excited about the colors I can bring into my home!

finding myself

I’m starting a new project – myself.  Like a lot of people, I seem to lack focus.  I’ve been taking this class on blogging, and as part of that I’ve been thinking a lot about what my blogging “niche” might be.  I’ve been spending a lot of time looking at my talented classmates fantastic blogs, and wondering what I can put out there that’s as worthwhile.  What should I focus on? I have so many interests, but do I really have a passion that is valuable and interesting? The funny thing is, as I’m thinking all of this and reading through the forums in my class I realize I’m not the only one who has this problem!  Other people lack focus too! Other bloggers, people who have great sites and great ideas, wonder if what they have to say is unique and important.

So I’ve been thinking, how do I find this focus?  And if I come up with some ideas on “finding myself” would anyone else be interested? I hope so!

What do you think? Is anyone out there searching for themselves?  How are you doing that? What tools do you use? What advice do you have for me and everyone else trying to find focus?
