Yard Sale

yard sale baggage

My parents recently relocated and downsized drastically. They now have 3 storage buildings, which I think is a little much. So, with some prompting and poking we’ve convinced them to have a yard sale. My sister and I have been dragging mom to go through boxes and talking dad into letting go of things.  Now my house is stacked up with boxes, and the ads have been posted, and in another day the stuff will be gone. It’s been an emotional experience – more than we expected. We had a really hard time putting mom’s handmade pottery from the 70s in the sale (we kept most of it). And the jewelry nobody ever wears was suddenly very desirable.  It’s always a little suprising to me that the things we have but don’t use, the things that clutter our lives, are so very hard to let go of.
